First, the choice of species. At present, the main domestic breeds are American king pigeons, Hong Kong king pigeons, Japanese rhubarb pigeons, and Mengdan pigeons, among which the number of American king pigeons is the highest in all regions. This breed can weigh more than 1100 grams after fattening, and individual can reach up to 1500 grams.

Second, feeding conditions. One-month-old youngsters can be eaten as long as 400-500 grams. Under good husbandry conditions, a pair of meat pigeons can produce 20 youngsters for 1 year, consume about 50 kilograms of grain feed for the whole year, and use pellet feed 10 kg. High-yielding meat pigeons consume 8 to 10 kilograms of pigeon meat each year, which consumes 46 kilograms of grain and 2.7 kilograms of mineral feed.

Third, nutrition standards. The standard of minerals required for 1 meat pigeon every day and night is: iron sulfate 0.6 mg, copper sulfate 0.06 mg, manganese sulfate 1.8 mg, zinc sulfate 0.07 mg, cobalt sulfate 0.05 mg, and potassium iodide 0.02 mg. The optimum level of crude protein is within 15%. The crude protein level of young birds when forced-fattening should be increased to l8%, crude fiber should not exceed 5%.

Fourth, feed formulation. The scientific feed formula is mainly composed of cereals and beans, such as corn, wheat, sorghum, peas, beans, beans and so on. The formula of the mixture is: yellow corn 35%, sorghum 20%, pea 20%, wheat slag 15%, oat kernel 5%, hemp 5%; can also use corn 30%, sorghum 20%, peas, brown rice, wheat 15%, 10-20% of green beans should be added in summer.

Fifth, disease prevention and treatment. Dyspepsia: The disease is mainly caused by overfeeding, insufficient drinking water, and unclean feed. The main symptoms are: the fullness of the crop does not subside, and the meat pigeons show inactivity or vomiting. Treatment: 1/2 tablet of soda dissolved in fresh water and fed once every 2 hours.

Fever: Meat pigeons suffering from the disease are mainly characterized by watery stools, loss of appetite or obsolescence, and rapid weight loss. Severe cases can die within 171 days. Treatment: Dissolve 1/4 of sulfamethoxazole in water and feed it once every 6 hours. It will be cured in a few days.

Malignant dysentery: The main symptoms of sick pigeons are: purple-brown mucous excrement and special bad odor. The number of sick pigeon defecate increases and feed intake decreases. If not treated in time, sick pigeons usually die within 7-14 days. The treatment method is the same as the fever treatment method.

Ophthalmitis: Treat the disease with 5% boric acid for eye wash, or apply it to the affected area.

Beriberi: The disease is mainly caused by the lack of vitamin B1, which causes weakness in both legs. Taking vitamin B1 tablets can be cured within a few days.
