American researchers have developed a new chemical sensor that prints directly on the elastic band of the underwear, even if the electrode on the sensor is pressed and unfolded, it will not affect its sensing ability. The "intelligence" of "smart underwear" is mainly manifested in the fact that printed sensors can be embedded in logic-based bio-computer systems for monitoring lactate, oxygen, and noradrenal glands detected from human sweat and tears. Based on biomarkers such as hormones and glucose, and automatically diagnose the soldiers' injuries and changes in the patient's health status, according to these diagnoses, the bio-computer system can automatically release a certain amount of drugs and implement treatment before the rescuers arrive.
The study's leader, Professor Joseph Wang of the Department of Nanoengineering at the University of California, San Diego, said that the choice of the elastic band of ordinary underwear is because it has the closest contact with human skin, so it can directly monitor the sweat. A series of test experiments have confirmed that the sensors that are directly printed on the elastic band of the underwear by bending, stretching and pressing have little detrimental effect on their ability to detect hydrogen peroxide and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH). In addition, sensor performance can be optimized by selecting different ink color combinations and ink viscosities for a particular textile pedestal.

The electrodes will also assume the role of the transducer, producing a series of 0's and 1's that reveal the pain and activate the smart substance and release the drug.
For example, if an injured soldier enters a state of shock, the enzyme on the electrode will sense an increase in the concentration of biomarkers such as lactate, glucose, and norepinephrine. Conversely, the concentration of the product produced by the enzyme will change: for example, the concentration of hydrogen peroxide, NADH will become higher; the concentration of NAD+ (the coenzyme necessary for cell energy metabolism) will become lower, which will allow the built-in logic structure to output the signal '1 , 0, 1, 0', these signals indicate that the soldier will be shocked and the system then triggers a predetermined therapeutic response.
In the latest issue of Analyst, the researchers pointed out that the successful development of the new sensor shows that the electrode can be part of the "smart underwear", and the device will be applied to the "National Naval Research Institute is developing" The Field Hospital Single Chip system (which is primarily used to monitor soldiers' injuries and provide medication).
