French bioprinter Poietis wins 2.5 million euros

Release date: 2016-01-06

Recently, French 3D bioprinting company Poietis successfully raised 2.5 million euros in its first round of financing, and its 900,000 euros came from the equity crowdfunding platform WiSEED, which is the largest amount raised on a single project on the website. The funding will help Poietis develop and commercialize its proprietary laser-assisted 3D bioprinting technology. According to Tiangong, the technology can be used to develop 3D printed skin for cosmetic and pharmaceutical companies to conduct product and drug testing, and ultimately for human regenerative medicine.

Fabien Guillemot, President of Poietis
Poietis was founded in 2014 by Fabien Guillemot and Bruno Brisson, the technology used by the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) and the University of Bordeaux for many years of research. Although 3D bioprinting, more specifically 3D skin printing, is currently being developed by several companies and research institutes, Poietis is prominent in this field with its pioneering laser-assisted 3D printing technology. The technology is capable of assembling living cells into pre-set 3D structures with resolutions up to 20 microns - an accuracy that exceeds any other 3D bioprinting technology. An important benefit of increased precision is the ability to create artificial models that match the physiological characteristics of human skin tissue.
3D bioprinting skin applications are numerous and may even be a solution for several important socio-economic problems, such as reducing animal experiments in cosmetics and pharmaceutical products, creating predictable skin models to replicate the characteristics of a disease, and performing drugs. Discovery or toxicity testing, and ultimately personalized regenerative care through customized 3D printed skin grafts.
In fact, the Bordeaux-based startup has signed an agreement with chemical giant BASF to jointly develop advanced 3D printed skin care applications. Today, Poietis will use its £2.5 million to further expand its highly skilled workforce, develop a dedicated 3D bioprinter, and commercialize its proprietary 3D bioprinting technology – all in hopes of 2017. Complete before.
It is understood that the funds are mainly from current shareholders, angel investors, and loans from French BPI (Public Investment Bank), Aquitaine Regional Council, EADS (European Aerospace Defense Group) Development and Michelin Development. In addition, 783 supporters from the crowdfunding platform WiSEED contributed 900,000 euros.
