Yangmei Post-harvest High-yield Management Technology

July is the golden period for summer management in Yangmei County. Effective practices during this time act as a bridge between previous and upcoming growth stages, ensuring stable and high-quality fruit production. Here are key management strategies for this critical phase: 1. **Timely Fertilization** In July, Yangmei trees experience their highest oxygen demand. It's essential to apply post-harvest fertilizer promptly. The main components should be potash-based. A typical recommendation is 15–20 kg of wood ash, 4 kg of rapeseed cake, and 1.5 kg of potassium sulfate per 50 kg of tree. 2. **Soil Cultivation and Weeding Combined with Fertilization** Cultivate the soil to a depth of 5–10 cm, which helps break up compaction caused by rain or foot traffic under the canopy. This improves water retention and nutrient absorption, enhancing drought resistance and promoting flower bud differentiation. 3. **Summer Pruning** Use an "extensive" pruning technique to remove unnecessary branches, cross-branches, and pest-infested shoots. The goal is to keep the tree open and well-ventilated while ensuring sufficient leaf area for photosynthesis. For grafted trees entering a rapid growth phase, remove any sprouts below the graft site to prevent rootstock overgrowth from affecting the scion. For newly grafted trees, prune excess upright shoots and preserve those in better positions to encourage fruiting. 4. **Chemical Regulation During Flower Bud Differentiation** After harvesting, it's crucial to apply flowering nutrients to support flower bud development and improve next year’s yield. Use flower bud inhibitors after fruit collection to control excessive blooming in the following year, preventing a "big year" with too many fruits. 5. **Pest and Disease Control** Post-harvest, monitor and manage pests and diseases effectively. For Myrica rubella, use 60% mancozeb at 600 times dilution or 70% thiophanate-methyl at 800 times. For scarab and bag moth pests, apply 48% chlorpyrifos at 1000–1500 times. For maggot nymphs, spray 40% speedcull EC or 25% flumethasone every 10 days for three applications starting late July. Manually remove Tianzhu larvae and control 槠 blackflies using 10% imidacloprid WP or 40% rotenone at appropriate concentrations. By implementing these practices, farmers can ensure healthy growth, higher yields, and better quality of Yangmei fruits in the coming season.
