Yangmei Post-harvest High-yield Management Technology

July is the critical period for summer management in Yangmei County, marking a vital link between the previous and upcoming growth stages. Proper care during this time ensures stable and high-quality fruit production. Here are key practices to follow: 1. **Timely Fertilization** In July, Yangmei trees experience their highest oxygen demand. It's essential to apply post-harvest fertilizer promptly. The main fertilizer should be potash-based. For each bayberry plant, apply 15–20 kg of wood ash, 4 kg of rapeseed cake, and 1.5 kg of potassium sulfate. This helps replenish nutrients and supports the tree’s recovery after fruiting. 2. **Soil Cultivation and Weeding** Combine cultivation with weeding, keeping the depth between 5–10 cm. This practice breaks up soil compaction caused by rain and foot traffic, improves water retention and nutrient absorption, and enhances the tree’s drought resistance—beneficial for flower bud development. 3. **Summer Pruning** Use the “extensive” pruning method to ensure good air circulation and light penetration. Remove unnecessary branches, crossing shoots, and pest-infested parts. For grafted trees, remove any sprouts below the graft site to prevent competition with the scion. If new shoots have been encouraged, prune excess upright ones and keep those in better positions to promote fruiting and increase three-dimensional yield. 4. **Chemical Regulation for Flower Bud Differentiation** After harvesting, it's crucial to regulate the flower bud differentiation period. Apply flowering nutrients to support the tree’s nutrition and encourage more flower buds for the next season. For red bayberries, use flower bud inhibitors to reduce overproduction in leap years, ensuring balanced yields. 5. **Pest and Disease Control** Post-harvest, monitor and control pests and diseases. For Myrica rubella, use 60% mancozeb at 600 times dilution or 70% thiophanate-methyl at 800 times. For scarab beetles and bagworms, apply 48% chlorpyrifos at 1000–1500 times. For fruit fly larvae, spray 40% dimethoate at 1500 times every 10 days for three applications. Manually remove Tianzhu larvae and control oak lace bugs using 10% imidacloprid at 3000 times or 40% acephate at 1500–2000 times. By following these steps, farmers can ensure healthier trees, better fruit quality, and more consistent yields throughout the year.
