Conventional treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is primarily directed at killing leukemia cells and has not resulted in significant changes in standard treatments in recent decades. It is welcome to change the bone marrow microenvironment to make it beneficial for the formation of healthy blood cells and is not conducive to the formation of leukemia cells.

New methods inhibit cancer cells and promote healthy cell production

The study revealed a previously unrecognized relationship between the formation of adipocytes in the bone marrow and normal bone marrow erythrocyte maturation. And this relationship provides a good treatment for myeloid leukemia, improving the symptoms of failure in patients with myeloid leukemia.

The study took three and a half years to begin with observations of leukemia patients. The next study was to collect bone marrow samples from a large number of patients at the Ottawa Hospital Institute, Western University and the Hamilton Health Science Center. Completed. The study also included a detailed study and imaging of healthy cells and cancer cells present in bone marrow (BM), revealing the role of fat cells.
