Building a Reinforced Corner Post: The Key to a Long-Lasting Fence

Key Components
Every brace consists of an **end post**, where the fence wire is attached. Opposite the end post is the **reinforcement post**, which increases the surface area of the post that contacts the soil, enhancing stability.

**Cross members** are horizontal posts that connect the end and reinforcement posts, allowing the fence to absorb tension without leaning. A brace wire is also used to transfer force between the posts, preventing the fence from tilting under pressure. Ideally, the width of the brace should be about 2.5 times the height of the fence.

Begin by setting the end post—these define the start and end points of your fence. For wooden posts in firm soil, bury them between 3.5 to 5.5 inches deep, depending on the soil type and fence height.
Using a guide wire simplifies the placement of line posts
Next, stretch a guide wire between the end posts. This wire can be temporary or permanent. Afterward, install all the line posts (the vertical supports along the guide wire) and reinforcement posts. Space the reinforcement posts about 2.5 times the height of your fence apart.
Then, attach the cross members. Cut them to fit snugly between the tops of the end and reinforcement posts, securing them with brace pins.
Tighten the wire using an inline strainer
Afterward, attach the brace wire and use an inline strainer to tighten the fence. With these steps, you’ll create a stable corner post that requires minimal upkeep.
