Seed-coating precision seeding technology is a high-tech agricultural innovation introduced and promoted by the State Ministry of Agriculture in 1999. To achieve full mechanization in cotton farming, the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps adopted a Japanese seed-wrapping machine and a slipper-type seeder. Building upon the original 2BM12-18/3 wide-film seeder, they successfully developed the 2MBD-12/3 model—a seed belt precision film planter. This machine is compatible with tractors such as the Tieniu-55, Deere Tianmao 600, and Deere Tianmao 654. It performs multiple tasks in one pass, including trenching, membrane laying, sub-band seeding under the film, membrane perforation, and soil covering. The main structure of this machine includes a frame, suspension girder, front shaping wheel, rear repressing wheel, open-ditch disc, smooth-film roller, exhibition film wheel, and profiling connecting rod. Compared to the previous 3-film 12-row seeder, this improved version offers several key advantages. First, it replaced the traditional slipper seeder with a single-roller depth limiter. The roller helps rotate residual film and grass roots, allowing the seed belt to be accurately placed into the soil through a seed tube, resulting in excellent coverage. This design enables precise control of seeding depth, typically between 3.0 to 3.5 cm, without causing film entanglement or affecting the overall frame stability. Second, the hole diverter was redesigned on the drilling unit, significantly improving the alignment rate of seed holes to over 85%. This enhancement allows the machine to complete a full range of operations—seeding, film application, drilling, and soil covering—in a single pass, greatly boosting work efficiency and reducing labor input. Overall, this seed-coating precision seeding technology represents a major advancement in modern agriculture, particularly for large-scale cotton production in regions like Xinjiang. Its combination of accuracy, efficiency, and adaptability makes it an essential tool for farmers aiming to maximize yield while minimizing resource use.
