Seed-coating precision seeding technology is a high-tech agricultural innovation introduced by the State Ministry of Agriculture in 1999 for testing and promotion. This revolutionary method has transformed traditional sowing practices, offering a highly efficient and accurate way to plant crops. To achieve full mechanization in cotton farming, the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps adopted advanced equipment, including a Japanese seed weaving machine and a slipper-type seeder. Building upon the original 2BM12-18/3 wide-film seeder, they successfully developed the 2MBD-12/3 model, a precision seed belt filming planter. This machine is compatible with tractors like the Tieniu-55, Deere Tianmao 600, and 654, and can perform multiple tasks such as trenching, film laying, sub-band seeding under the film, membrane perforation, and soil covering—all in one pass.
The main structure of the machine includes a frame, suspension girder, front shaping wheel, rear repressing wheel, open-ditch disc, smooth-film roller, exhibition film wheel, and profiling connecting rod. Compared to the previous 3-film 12-row seeder, this new design brings several improvements:
First, it replaces the slipper seeder with a single-roller depth limiter. The roller rotates to clear residual film and grass roots, allowing the seed belt to be accurately placed into the soil via the seed tube, resulting in better coverage. This system ensures precise depth control, maintaining a consistent seeding depth of 3.0–3.5 cm without causing blockages from leftover film.
Second, the hole diverter has been redesigned on the drilling unit, significantly improving the alignment rate of seed holes to over 85%. This allows the machine to complete multiple operations—seeding, film coating, drilling, and soil covering—in a single pass, greatly enhancing work efficiency and reducing labor input.
Overall, the 2MBD-12/3 seed planter represents a major advancement in agricultural technology, combining precision, efficiency, and ease of use to support modern farming practices.
