Due to its adaptability, the track-type harvester offers several advantages, such as strong traction, superior harvesting quality, and high profitability, which has made it increasingly popular among farmers. However, improper operation by some users can significantly reduce efficiency and damage the overall performance of the machine.
First, some operators tend to pull the steering handle freely while operating. This often happens when they are overly focused on other aspects of the work, causing both hands to unintentionally move the steering wheel. As a result, the harvester makes sudden turns, and the front part may crush the crops that are meant to be cut. This leads to uneven cutting and difficulties in feeding the crops into the harvesting platform, ultimately resulting in losses. To avoid this, the operator should keep the steering handle steady when moving straight and ensure full-width cutting. When turning, always check the direction carefully and aim for precise positioning in one go.
Second, some operators fail to reverse before turning around. This can cause the cutting mechanism to collide with the crop, leading to unnecessary damage. When making a 180-degree turn, it's important to back up slightly first to fully separate the cutting part from the crop that has already been engaged.
Third, harvesting pest-damaged crops too quickly can lead to problems. For example, eucalyptus leaves that have been eaten by insects are more fragile and tend to break along with the grains during the process. If the machine moves too fast, the leaves and grains may not separate properly and end up being blown onto the ground together, reducing the quality of the harvest.
Fourth, operators should avoid reversing across the field or going uphill. The combine harvester has a forward center of gravity, so when moving uphill, the front of the machine lifts, shifting the balance backward. As the machine descends, the center of gravity suddenly shifts forward, which can cause instability. This increases the risk of mechanical damage or even injury to the operator.
By following these guidelines, operators can improve their efficiency, protect the machine, and ensure a higher-quality harvest.
