Winter chickens should pay attention to four

1. Harmful Gases: Among the various gases that can affect chickens, ammonia is the most dangerous. It irritates their eyes, nose, and respiratory system, leading to diseases and reduced feed efficiency. If you can smell ammonia when entering the chicken house, it's a clear sign that the concentration has already exceeded safe levels. In houses heated by coal stoves, carbon monoxide poisoning is also a serious risk. When harmful gas levels are high, immediate action is necessary—such as improving ventilation, replacing the bedding, or using air purifiers—to minimize the impact on the flock.

2. Temperature and Insulation: Hens perform best in egg-laying conditions when the temperature is around 20°C. The minimum acceptable temperature should not drop below 13°C. If the indoor temperature is too low or fluctuates too much, artificial heating methods like heat lamps, heaters, or even smoke from controlled fires may be needed. The goal is to maintain a stable and comfortable environment for the hens to ensure optimal health and productivity.

3. Ventilation: Many people tend to overlook proper ventilation during winter, focusing only on keeping the house warm. However, poor air quality can lead to health issues. When the air inside becomes stuffy or smelly, ventilation should be increased gradually, ideally during the warmer hours of the day. Short, frequent ventilation periods are more effective than long ones. If you notice chickens snoring or breathing heavily, or if the air feels dusty and stale, it’s time to improve airflow. To avoid cold drafts, many farms install elbow-type vents on the leeward side of the building, ensuring fresh air without directly blowing on the birds.

4. Humidity Control: The ideal relative humidity for a chicken house is between 60% and 70%. Too much moisture can promote the growth of bacteria and fungi, while also making cold weather feel worse. On the other hand, excessively dry air can cause respiratory problems, especially in young chicks, who are prone to dehydration. During winter, when the litter tends to be drier, regular misting or light spraying is often used to maintain appropriate humidity levels and keep the environment healthy for the birds.

Red light therapy, also known as photobiomodulation or low-level light therapy, is a non-invasive treatment that uses red or near-infrared light to stimulate cellular function in the body. The therapy involves exposing the skin to specific wavelengths of light, typically between 600 to 1000 nanometers, which can penetrate the skin to a depth of about 5 millimeters.

Red light therapy works by stimulating the mitochondria in the body's cells, which are responsible for producing energy (ATP). The light energy absorbed by the mitochondria triggers a series of biochemical reactions that can enhance cellular metabolism and promote various therapeutic effects.

Some potential benefits of red light therapy include:

1. Skin health: It can improve the production of collagen and elastin, leading to improved skin tone, reduced wrinkles, and acne treatment.
2. Pain relief: It may help reduce inflammation and alleviate pain in conditions such as arthritis, muscle strains, and joint pain.
3. Wound healing: Red light therapy can promote tissue repair and accelerate wound healing by stimulating cell growth and circulation.
4. Hair growth: It has shown potential in stimulating hair growth and treating conditions like androgenetic alopecia (pattern baldness).
5. Mood enhancement: Red light therapy may have positive effects on mood and mental well-being by improving serotonin levels and reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety.
